2019 Localicious Recap

Letter From The Executive Director

In its sixth year, 222 restaurants statewide participated in the Hawaiʻi Agricultural Foundation’s (HAF) annual Localicious Hawaiʻi campaign, helping to raise over $64,000 for our K-12 Ag Education Programs in public schools. The campaign serves as a meeting place for the community and food industry to come together and support ag education for our keiki; cultivate our next generation of agribusiness professionals and do our part for the sustainability of our islands.

This year, we started a new pledge system of various participation levels. Instead of asking restaurants to donate $1 per dish, we offered restaurants the flexibility to determine their own donation amount from the proceeds of each dish, which resulted in higher contributions from each individual restaurant. Every $500 donated by a participating restaurant allows them to adopt a classroom to help teachers purchase materials and equipment to carry out ag-based lessons, student supplies, field trips and more. With the new pledge system, we made greater overall impact with 102 classroom adoptions as compared to 95 classroom adoptions in 2018.

On behalf of the 2019 Localicious Hawai‘i Leadership Council, campaign sponsors, and all of us at HAF, we thank you for your generosity and goodwill.

Denise Yamaguchi, Executive Director
